Teleclass Etiquette ::
Dial-In Numbers and Teleclass Guidelines:
For those who are participating in a teleclass for the first time, this is a very easy process. You simply dial the assigned conference call phone number (supplied for each class). Once the system answers your call and confirms that you have reached "Free Conference Calling.com" or "Conferencing Center", the automated operator will request that you enter your Conference Code or PIN number (supplied for each class). You will be guided if you also need to follow the Conference Code or PIN with the (#) sign. The system will then place you into the group call. This is similar to stepping into a private classroom. Here are a few points of etiquette and guidelines regarding teleclasses:
- It is suggested that you call in five to eight minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Occasionally, phone line transfer systems can become heavily loaded during class hours, so simply redial if you experience a busy tone.
- The class will begin once all participants are online and confirmed.
- If you are calling in on time, please state your name and where you live when you enter the room. "Hello, this is Carol from Pekin, IL." If you call in late, please remain quiet until there is a break. Whenever you talk in the class, we ask that you begin with "this is (your name)". We cannot see each other and therefore, we need everyone to identify themselves first. Thanks so much!
- Let the facilitator know if you will be late, leaving early, or missing a class.
- We will create a Sacred Connected Space when we join together. We request that you honor this space and be fully present and engaged. Please do not read your email, wash dishes, fold clothes, otherwise multi-task, etc. We are here to learn and share and enrich ourselves. The class will be so much richer if we each participate and practice active listening. Thank you!
- We request that you not cross talk. Please wait for the person speaking to finish before you speak. Then state your name and share. "This is Kristin, I wanted to ask..."
- It is recommended that you to be prepared to take notes of key points or details for yourself and write down questions you may have during the call that you can ask during specific question and answer periods. Question and answer time periods will vary based on class size and material.
- Stay grounded in the positive. Your energy impacts the others on the call.
- Respond to questions or discussion without hesitating. Spontaneous responses create valuable experiences for everyone and make the course dynamic. We all get into the flow!
- If you have been the first to respond to a couple of questions, allow others the time and space to share, question or comment.
- Be aware of tangents and travel on a different line of discussion only if it will be of the best interest of everyone on the call.
- A grounded phone line or land line is best for this call. If you must use a cell phone or wireless phone, find the best place in the house and remain there for the call so the line will remain clear for everyone. If there is ANY background noise at all, even outside, please use the "mute" button on your phone (preferred) or the mute feature of the conference calling system used for the class.
The mute feature for "Free Conference Calling.com" is (4) then (*) to mute, or again unmute, your phone.
The mute feature for "Teleconferencing Services" or "Free Conference Pro" is (*) then (6) to mute, or again unmute, your phone.
This approach will mute out all noise. If you want to speak you simply need to press (4) then (*), or (*) then (6), depending on the system, and you are un-muted. Depending on the class size and background noise, the moderator may use the option of muting everyone on the call and then open the lines for question and answer period. - The class will be digitally recorded. An internet link for listening to the call via the internet will be e-mailed out to participants within 24 hours following the call to assist with further review depending on the topics discussed.
- Smile and be happy.
Thank you for your participation and enjoy the class!
