Fieldwork Assignment Set #3 ::

(Specifically for course code GS103 Legacies of Love with Teresa Wagner)

There is enrollment and tuition associated with this Fieldwork review for GS103 with Teresa. See course code GS103F.

Below is the ASN Fieldwork Assignment Form (#3). For the GS103 course, this format is to be used instead of ASN Fieldwork Assignment form (#1). This fieldwork assignment indicates your comprehension and mastery of the materials in your ASN course. There are two situations that will require you to submit a fieldwork report after taking a course:

  • If you are taking a course with ASN that is part of a Program of Study, and you are working toward a Certificate of Completion, you must complete a fieldwork assignment for that course and have it reviewed. You do not need to complete the fieldwork assignment if you are not planning to earn a Certificate of Completion from an ASN Program of Study.

  • If you wish to transfer learning units from an ASN class to another institution, you must submit a fieldwork assignment and have it reviewed. That will support your request, by illustrating your effort in the course, and your understanding of the material.

Submit your responses via e-mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) to the following:

LEGACIES OF LOVE TELECLASS: Field Work Questions

The purpose of including the Legacies of Love class as a requirement in the Animal Loss and Grief Support Program of Study is to help us bring not just an academic understanding of grief to our work with clients but also our applied, personal wisdom. If we have not bravely and thoroughly explored the pain and healing process of our own losses, we bring only an academic understanding of grief to our roles of helping others.

Integrating our awareness of our own challenging, painful healing experiences into our repertoire of knowledge and skills is an extremely powerful tool in working with clients. Often, we do not need to even verbalize a thing about this awareness when working with clients (and often shouldn’t). But inside, there are times that we know, we know we’ve been where a client has been in their pain. We’ve experienced some of the same dilemmas, overwhelm, confusion or trauma and the challenges of healing them that clients are experiencing at a similar level of vibration or circumstance.

This level of shared experience of pain creates an energy of empathy that cannot be duplicated by anything other than experience. Exposure to information about grief or any healing process from books, classes, symposiums, advanced degrees, etc. is a means to build cognitive awareness. This exposure to information can make one sophisticated or learned about a topic and has an important role in our intellectual understanding of loss, grief, healing, etc. But it is only by integrating what we’ve learned into our own lives that can create wisdom: How have we applied the knowledge we’ve been exposed to? How have we made sense of it in our own healing? How has it changed our consciousness? Do we understand the power it holds for helping us to continue to grow and being a witness to other’s pain and healing?

In the Grief Support Skills class (Course Code GS104) we review in detail the ethics and boundaries of how and when to appropriately self-disclose or not self-disclose aspects of our personal experiences with clients. But the first step is being clear about our own learning and growth from loss. That is the focus of this fieldwork assignment.

You’ve been very courageous to walk through the Legacies of Love class to consciously face your own grief healing work. Thank you for coming, and may all you may have learned serve you, in healing your own heart, and in helping others heal theirs.

Love and Blessings,

Teresa

    b) How do you think this self awareness and learning may impact your work with clients?

  2. What did you learn about loss and grief from this class that perhaps you didn't know or give much thought to before, and may now see as important?

    b) How might this learning impact your work with clients?

  3. What are three or four favorite thoughts/quotes from the class that you feel are good reminders for you as you continue your own healing journeys and also interact with and support grievers?

What is it about these concepts or quotes that inspires you?

  4. Feel free to make any further comments about your participation and learning from the class:

A typed, organized, and thoughtful response of approximately 3-4 pages is requested. Responses will be forwarded to and reviewed by the course instructor, and feedback will be provided as needed.
