BW122 - Tellington TTouchTM Intensive with Practicum ::The Intensive with Practicum is a two-day event intended to provide an immersion into the Tellington TTouch (TTouch) method of training companion animals. It is especially suited for pet professionals who would like to incorporate Tellington TTouch techniques into their practice without attending a longer Introductory or Certification training.* Veterinarians, veterinary technicians and nurses, groomers, handlers, trainers and other individuals may enhance their skills and add value to their practice through the use of Tellington TTouch techniques. Non-pet professionals will find these techniques useful to enhance their relationship with their companion animal, as well as resolve performance and behavior issues. The goal of the program is to enable participants to become self-sufficient in the use of the method, including application and assessment. Homework and instructor demonstrations will facilitate learning. A major benefit of attending the Intensive with Practicum is that classes are limited to seven individuals. This allows more one-on-one with the instructor and a more in-depth exploration of the techniques. Special emphasis is placed on assessing the animal's response to the techniques and altering the protocol accordingly. TTouch is done with gentle circular, sliding and lifting movements of the hands. These movements, which activate balanced brain wave patterns (the "Awakened Mind" state) and reduce levels of stress hormones, promote whole-brain learning, activate unused neural pathways, and work on a cellular level to help animals release dysfunctional emotional states and movement patterns. TTouch is used in veterinary practice to promote healing and rehabilitation. It is used by groomers to calm animals so that they accept handling and grooming. It is used by trainers and behaviorists to enhance focus and concentration. The Intensive with Practicum also covers body wraps. Wraps apply the concept of maintained pressure to stimulate the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system, decreasing reactivity and promoting calmer behavior and emotional state. Wraps also help support a body into a more symmetrical form, which may result in more balanced and functional movement. In the Practicum, participants will have the opportunity to work with dogs other than their own, while receiving guided and critiqued hands-on practice. This will help to refine their techniques and observational skills. It is also expected that individuals will demonstrate their protocols to the class and be able to explain rationale for their use.
