SB106 - Fundamentals of Pocket Pet Behavior & Care ::
This teleclass will introduce you to behavior issues for some of the “pocket pets” that you may encounter as an animal communicator or intuitive healing practitioner.
We will discuss general issues with this category of animal companions, and then focus on specific species. Supportive written material will be provided via digital link to a PDF file handout prior to the class.
The teleclass and discussion will include:
- A discussion of pocket pets and their common behavior issues (domestic vs. exotic, mammals vs. non-mammals)
- Keeping out of your own way during communication/healing
- Considerations related to the size of the animal
- Hedgehogs: Quilled Companions (history, where they come from; pet stores, breeders, rescues)
- History, where they come from (pet stores, breeders, rescues)
- Socialization issues
- Housing issues
- Food and nutrition as they relate to behavior
- Exercise
- Grooming
- Common health issues
- Recommending complementary/alternative therapies
- Rabbits
- Guinea Pigs/Cavies
- Chinchillas

- Questions, answers and discussion
This course is available on-demand, and includes a full class audio recording and the course material handout. For students taking this course as part of an ASN Program of Study, and if you are working toward a Certificate of Completion, you are to complete the fieldwork assignment for this course and have it reviewed. You do not need to complete the fieldwork assignment if you are not planning to earn a Certificate of Completion from an ASN Program of Study. The Fieldwork must also be submitted if you are transferring the learning units from this ASN class to another institution.
