Michelle established The Polite Parrot as an avian behavior consultant in 1996, and has twenty-two years of hands-on experience with parrots. She worked for eight years as a veterinary assistance and veterinary office manager for an exotic vet, and worked for fifteen years in affiliation with Narnia Pet Behavior in Naperville, IL. Michelle volunteers her time to many reputable rescues, bird stores, and breeders to help ensure a long, healthy, happy life of parrots. In addition to behavior consulting, she offers gentle grooming, diet conversion, behavior video, educational lectures, and has published works in Birds USA and Rabbits magazine.
Michelle is the Director of Passion's Tree of Life Foundations, Intl., home of Bird-elicious all organic bird food. She is also the director of Avian Behavior for a Refuge for Saving the Wildlife, a 501c3 non for profit rescue in Northbrook, IL.
Michelle's experience has been hands-on work with unwanted, abused, and behaviorally challenged birds. Her philosophy is to use positive reinforcement, along with anticipation and redirection of unwanted behaviors, and she never recommends anything that would break the bond of trust with an avian companion. Michelle's goal is to educate and help people and their birds.
